Hectic week on the Island. Stony Brook and LIU programs went 6-0 on the week. Hofstra Women fall, again, to a ranked opponent and Wagner College men loses twice to Long Island teams. Here is the recap.
Hofstra-Stony Brook
The 10th battle of Long Island commenced on Thursday between the women’s lacrosse teams of Hofstra and Stony Brook. In the 10th renewal between the programs, Stony Brook tied up the all-time series to five games apiece with a 12-8 victory over the Pride. It was a defense-controlled game with Ally Kennedy and Alyssa Parrella, both on the Tewaaraton Award watch list were limited to two goals apiece. It was all Stony Brook in the first 23 minutes of the game, with the Seawolves going up 7-1. Hofstra bounced back and scored three to finish the half down 7-3. Stony Brook came back from halftime looking sluggish and unable to control their possessions, but Hofstra’s offense did not take advantage of the Seawolves play and only got one goal in the first fifteen minutes. The middle of the second half so defense one would expect out of these two teams, with Hofstra forcing a shot-clock violation on Stony Brook and the Seawolves not allowing the Pride to get to the net. The Seawolves were able to get put a nail in Hofstra’s coffin with three goals in the last ten minutes and held off a late surge to win the game. Jess Smith made 10 stops in the loss with Kameron Halsall getting the ‘W’ with 12 saves. The number 6 seeded Seawolves moved to 7-2 on the season, while the Pride fell to 3-3 earning their second consecutive lost to a number six seed, losing to Boston College last weekend. The Pride will next host Drexel on Saturday, April 3 at 4 p.m.
