Grace Gately is among the top 2021 girls lacrosse players in the nation. After scoring 40 goals and adding 26 assists as a sophomore, she was among the highest ranked players in the country.

She announced her verbal commitment to Villanova last night after weeks of deciding between her top choices. I had a chance to speak with her and here’s what she had to say…

Can you explain your experience with the college recruiting process and how you made your decision?

Before September 1, it was hard to know where I’d end up. Once September 1 hit, I was getting a lot of calls. It was exciting but nerve wracking–almost overwhelming. I got a couple offers but once I visited Villanova I knew it was the perfect fit. I really liked the coaches and the other girls.

Who are some role models in your life?

All my coaches and the other girls on my team. They push me to be my best and I push them as well. They all support me and I do the same for them. Also, my parents and family. They are so supportive and helpful.

Who are some athletes you try to emulate?

I would say my cousin, Claire Quinn. Even though she’s not a pro she played at Northwestern and Team USA. I always wanted to follow in her footsteps.

Do you know what you’d like to major in yet?

Not yet. I haven’t made my decision but I will keep thinking about it.

How would you describe your time with Long Island Liberty travel?

It’s been amazing. They are such good players. My coach, Danielle Gallagher, was my high school coach for my freshman season at Manhasset. Playing with these girls is amazing, most of them are committed already.

What are your goals for 2020?

I would like to increase my total goals and assists. This season I was All-County so I’d like to be All-American Honorable Mention.

What are you doing to improve in the off-season?

Since I don’t play another sport I’m playing Fall Ball. I also work out with my trainer, Scott Schrieber, and in my backyard with my two younger brothers.
