For college ballplayers on Long Island, finding the right place to play in the summer can be a real challenge. Having to balance a work schedule with staying sharp on the diamond against top competition can be a lot more stressful than they initially thought.

Fortunately, the Long Island Collegiate Baseball League (LICBL) has emerged as a great option for local college players.

The league–which operates under NCAA rules–has 10 teams and they are all coached by college coaches (five are Head Coaches). Roster spots are assignment-only from college programs. The majority of the players are from Div-I or II college programs.

“We allow five HS seniors per roster, all of which are committed to reputable programs,” said College League Coordinator Mike Atan. “We also allow college seniors who are looking for next level opportunities,” he added.

The league plays a 35-game schedule plus an All-Star Game and playoffs.

They have had the opportunity to expand the league but ultimately chose not to.

“We have turned down numerous teams to keep the quality pure and not dilute what we have achieved, the quality of assignments have increased every year and only looking to improve every year,” said Atan.

The games are played at schools like Adelphi University, Farmingdale State College, SUNY Old Westbury, Queens College and others. Additionally, the league will have area scouts assigned such as Larry Izzo (Mets), Cesar Presbott (Yankees) and Dan Palumbo (Phillies).

Axcess Baseball will provide coverage of the All-Star Game and the playoffs.
