Q & A With Stefania Abruscato

It’s tough to have a better high school career than Hauppauge junior Stefania Abruscato. The Missouri-commit was recently named Suffolk County Position Player of the Year for the second time. She also was named Catcher MTRX LI Catcher of the Year, 3x All-State, 3x All-County, 3x Newsday Player to watch, 3x All-Long Island, 2x Extra Inning Softball National Player of the Week, PGF All-American, to name a few.

I had a chance to speak with her and here’s what she had to say…

Who are some people who have had a big impact on your career?

My dad, my mom, my sisters Crisalyn and Giuliana.

Can you explain your experience with the college recruiting process and why you chose Missouri?

I committed 7th going into 8th before they changed the recruiting rules. It was a great experience visiting all the colleges, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Duke, UVA, etc. I felt most comfortable at Mizzou and it was my favorite out of all of them. Then Coach Anderson and her staff got the job there and made it even better.

What is your travel schedule like in the summer as a high-level softball player?

I travel all over the country with the NJ Intensity kOD National Team. This week, I will be in Colorado, next week, Chicago, then California.

Do you work with any private instructors?

Just my dad.

What has been your biggest thrill on a softball field?

Hitting a game-winning three-run home run last year in Colorado to put our team in the finals on Championship Sunday.

Was softball always your No. 1 sport? Did you play anything else growing up?

Actually I grew up playing baseball. My 1st softball game was opening day of varsity softball when I was in 7th grade. I now love softball, I also have always and continue to play soccer and basketball. I play AAU basketball and travel soccer. Now I play basketball and soccer for Hauppauge.

Can you discuss the impact your father had on you as a player since he is at the top of the high school coaching ranks

He has taught me everything I know. He is my personal instructor in all aspects of the game. He has made me into the player and athlete I am today.

What would you like to major in when you’re in college?

Biology or engineering

Goals for 2023?

Win a County Championship in all 3 HS sports I play and win the PGF National Championship.

Favorite vacation spot?

Huntington Beach, California or OBX in the Winter!
