All four Division I Long Island teams that played this weekend found victories including two games that ended 12-11. 

The Hofstra women’s team have finally defeated a seeded opponent this season after finding victory against 24th ranked James Madison 13-7 at Tierney Field at US Lacrosse’s headquarters in Sparks, Maryland. The last time the Pride defeated a ranked opponent was against 25th ranked High Point University back on March 16, 2019. The Pride lost to eight ranked opponents in between the wins, including twice against JMU back in 2019, the second lost coming during the CAA championship. Katie Whelan led the Pride in scoring with six goals and two assists. Alyssa Parrella added five points with a hat trick and is now the all-time leading scorer for the Colonial Athletic Association with 330 points. Parrella who is already having a record-breaking season was named an honorable mention to Inside Lacrosse’s Midseason All-American list. Jess Smith made nine saves in the win and Hofstra is now 4-4 on the season with a 0-1 record in conference play, Saturday’s game against CAA rival JMU was not considered a conference game. The Pride was scheduled to face Delaware on Thursday, but Delaware’s season was cancelled earlier in the month. Hofstra will next travel to Philly to face Drexel on Sunday at 1 pm.

The number 20 ranked Hofstra men defeated 19th ranked UMass Friday evening 12-11 in a game that saw 6 lead changes. Hofstra had six players score with Ryan Tierney, Riley Forte, and Justin Lynskey all scoring hat tricks. Kevin Tobin scored four for the Minutemen (3-3, 3-2) will face Towson on Saturday. Bobby Casey made seven saves in the win with Matt Knote making 13. Hofstra is now 6-2 on the season, 3-1 in conference play, and will face Towson on Tuesday for noon matinee with the Tigers.

The Stony Brook Men earned its second win of the season against America East opponent NJIT 12-8 on Saturday in Newark. Matt Anderson led the Seawolves with four goals and Mike McCannell had five assists and one goal of his own. Owen Corry led the Highlanders with four goals and Collin Fogerty had four points including three assists in the loss. NJIT led 7-5 heading into the half but couldn’t stop the Seawolves, who scored the last six goals in the game. Anthony Palma made seven saves in the win and shut-out NJIT in the fourth quarter. Liam Brown made 18 saves in the loss: three saves short of his career high. NJIT (1-7, 1-5) will travel to Hartford, also 1-5 in conference play, for Saturday game starting at 11 am. Stony Brook (7-3, 5-1) hosts Binghamton on Friday at 6 pm. The second game of a lacrosse double-header at LaValle Stadium.

The Stony Brook Women’s game against UNH was canceled and the two teams will play each other in Durham on Wednesday, April 21. The Seawolves will next play Binghamton on Friday at 3 pm. This past week Ally Kennedy was named to the Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-American First team, with teammate Taryn Ohlmiller earning herself an honorable mention. Both graduate students are also on the Tewaaraton Award Watch list. 

The LIU women survived a comeback from host Merrimack, winning 12-11 on Saturday. Sara Stephens scored four goals for the Sharks and Rachel Masullo tallied two goals and two assists of her own. Merrimack’s Meghan Dzialo had seven goals on 12 shots, eight of them on goal. Hailey Duchnowski made eight saves in the win, with Gabby Cacciola making nine in the loss. Merrimack (1-8, 1-6) hosts Central Connecticut State on Wednesday, a remake of a game that was postponed last week. LIU (8-2, 6-2) will travel to Loretto, Pennsylvania to take on St. Francis on Saturday. 

The LIU men did not play this week and will host Mount St. Mary’s (Maryland) on Saturday for a noon draw.
