Here is a weekly rundown of five local products who made a splash in the NCAA this week.

Brendan O’Neill: Fr., Bay Shore, NY; 2021: G: 22, A: 5
The Duke men’s lacrosse team improved to its best start (8-0) since 2008 following the 17-6 win over . O’Neill was a big contributor by matching a career-best with five goals in the win, following a five-goal day against High Point last week. The freshman leads the team with 22 goals scored this season, ahead of teammates including Joe Robertson, Michael Sowers and Dyson Williams.

Chris Gray: Sr., Wading River, NY; G: 28, A: 17
There is no better scorer in NCAA men’s lacrosse than Chris Gray. The senior followed up his 10-point performance at Mercer by scoring four goals and dishing an assist in the 16-13 win versus #8-Virginia. He currently leads the nation with 28 goals and 45 points.

Meaghan Tyyrell, Jr., Mt. Sinai, NY; G: 16, A: 10
The junior attacker has stepped up as the primary goal scorer in-place of the injured Emily Haryschuk. Tyyrell converted multiple scoring chances into goals against #9-Notre Dame, scoring three goals each in both games this weekend. She tops the team with 26 points this season, 16 coming off goals

Jamie Ortega & Katie Hoeg; Sr., Centereach & Mattiuck, NY; G: 27, A:12, G: 12, A: 21
There is no better attacking duo in the NCAA than the Long Island tandem. The pair are among the top ten point scorers in the nation with Ortega entering the weekend tied for the lead. The duo helped top-ranked UNC improve to 7-0 by combining for eight of 23 goals scored in the 22-1 beatdown of #14-Virginia Tech. Ortega, the leading scorer in program history, paced the team with five goals and seven points. Hoeg followed her classmate with six points in the game.
