Here is the recaps of the local DI programs from this past week.

Tierney is King:

Hofstra’s senior attacker Ryan Tierney broke school and CAA records in the Pride’s 18-6 victory over Wagner. With his third goal of the game, Tierney became the all-time goal scorer for Hofstra with 141 goals and the conferences all-time points leader with 213 points. Tierney finished the game with 144 career goals and 216 points. The 20th ranked Pride finished the game with nine different players earning at least one goal, led by Tierney’s six and graduate Alex Concannon’s hattrick. Redshirt Sophomore goalkeeper Mac Gates saved five in the win on Tuesday. The Pride travel down to Towson to start conference play against the Tigers on Saturday, March 13 for a 1 pm first draw. 

The Hofstra women take on UAlbany on Tuesday, March 9 at 4 pm. 

The Seawolves in Maryland:

The Stony Brook Seawolves fifth ranked women’s team played two games in Baltimore county this past week, defeating both conference rival UMBC 15-8 on Friday, March 5 and number 16 Towson 10-8 on Sunday, March 7. In Friday’s game, Taryn Ohlmiller led the team with five goals with fellow graduate student Ally Kennedy scored four of her own. Hayley Hunt, making her first collegiate start made six saves in the victory. 

In Sunday’s game against Towson, freshman Jaden Hampel led the Seawolves with three goals with Kennedy and Kailyn Hart both having two. Redshirt junior Kameron Halsall returned to her starting duties in the net and made eight saves in the victory. Stony Brook hosts America East rival UMass Lowell on Sunday, March 14 for noon time matinee. 

The Stony Brook men, travelled down to UMBC on Saturday and lost 13-12 in a game that went into four overtime periods. The contest was back-and-forth for most of the game with 13 lead changes. Cory Van Ginhoven tied the game up with 7 seconds remaining in regulation. Junior Anthony Palma made 12 saves in the loss, while his counterpart, Tommy Lingner made 16 for the Retrievers. Stony Brook, who fell out of rank this past week but still received votes, heads up to the Carrier Dome to face number 6 Syracuse on Friday, March 12 at 1 pm. 

*LIU did not play this week. The Men host Hobart College for a noon competition on March 13, while the women travel to Staten Island on Wednesday, March 10 to face Wagner College. Then Central Connecticut State on Saturday March 13, in New Britain.
