Hofstra Women’s Basketball athletes Ana Hernandez-Gil and Marianne Kalin built a strong connection as teammates from 2016 to 2020. Now, the duo will be see each other on the court at the professional level– on opposing teams.

El Club Baloncesto Al-Qázeres Extremadura (C.B. Al Qazeres Extremadura) officially signed Hernandez-Gil to a pro contract, the team announced this afternoon.

“I am thankful that the opportunity that was given to me,” Hernandez-Gil said in a press release. “I am very excited to start. I can’t wait to have fun this season with my teammates and the fans and also can’t wait to get to Cáceres and start working to achieve all the goals we have for this season.”

She is the third Hofstra Class of 2020 alum to sign a professional contract this offseason, alongside Kalin and Sandra Karsten.

Kalin signed with Club Baloncesto Bembibre in July. Both C.B. Al Qazeres Extremadura and Club Baloncesto Bembibre are members of the Liga Femenina Endesa, which is the highest level of women’s basketball league competition in Spain. The league is overseen by the Spanish Basketball Federation.

Hernandez-Gil ranks fifth in program history with 177 three-pointers made. The guard knocked down eight three-pointers in a single game twice, one away from tying a program record. However, those marks are the third-most in Colonial Athletic Association history.

The graduate started in 22 of her 29 games played for the Pride this past season. Her 58 shots made from beyond the arc paced the team and she was their highest scorer in six different games. The guard finished third averaging over eight points per contest and shot above 30 percent from the floor.

Hernandez-Gil finished her collegiate career averaging more than seven points per game. She grabbed 159 rebounds, dished 85 assists, and forced 44 steals in three seasons. An ankle injury forced the guard to miss her sophomore campaign.

The guard was a standout talent in her native home of the Canary Islands in Spain. She led her high school team to five national titles and four Canary Islands championships. Hernandez-Gil represented Spain at the U-18 FIBA European Championships in 2016.

Four Pride graduates have signed pro contracts within the last two seasons. Boogie Brososki signed with CS Phoenix Constanta in Romania last August.
