WHAT A GAME that occurred Friday night, as Oyster Bay Baymen squeaked away in the closing minutes to pull off the upset victory vs Academy Charter School 52-51.

This win not only had the crowd cheering, but it had many hearts drop. From the player’s perspective, it came down to a hail mary 3/4’s court bomb for Academy Charter, which was NEARLY made by Josh Richardson (Academy Charter). However, it was missed, which capped off an incredible victory at home for Oyster Bay.

“Our guys kept fighting” said Coach Brian of Oyster Bay. “We told them at halftime that if we keep up the intensity, work together, find each other, & trust together, that we would get a win.”

Sure enough, this team did exactly that. For a team that trailed almost the entire game (except from having a 3-0 lead in the first quarter), to come back and pull off a win says a lot about their character. This win was due in large part because of Max Weinberg, who absolutely exploded for a game high 27 points (11 in the fourth quarter alone) including two 3 pointers & a converted and-1 towards the end of regulation.

While this win feels great, it wasn’t easy. The Baymen were down 43-31 in the mid-third quarter before losing one of their key contributors. From that point on, the team went on a 9-2 run, closing the quarter down five before adding a 12-6 run to complete the comeback.

With the season drawing to an end, the Baymen have three games remaining in the regular season, while needing to win a few upcoming games in order to keep their playoff hopes alive.. “Stay tough, stay positive” says Coach Brian. “We have 3 games left, and need to win two of them… Keep working hard, keep focusing, and anything can happen”. With not much time to rest, Oyster bay is looking to stay optimistic about their success going forward..
